Irish is an ambitious teenage girl who feels that the world is unfair to her. She becomes insecure when her bestfriend Sheryl got the role in the school play that she is also up for. Irish meets an old woman in the river who tells her to whisper all her problems to a stone and throw it into the river. From then on, Irish succeeds in getting good grades, but she still wants to beat Sheryl. Irish returns to the river and thinks of throwing stones for other people. The old woman forbids her but Irish dares to do so, and she wishes that her mother would be more linient and that Sheryl's mother would become strict. After throwing the stone for Sheryl's mother, Irish's wish come true. Irish is devastated when she discovers that her boyfriend Rico is cheating on her. Irish hopes of marrying Rico for his wealth. After casting a stone on Kit, Irish wins Rico back, and Kit breaks up with Sheryl. Irish is happy when Sheryl loses the role in the play, but Rico later breaks up with her so he can take care of his father who is sick with Alzheimer's disease. Irish learns that Sheryl got a scholarship and that her father got promoted and their family will be moving to the city. Irish returns to the river, but the old woman says that there is only one stone left. Irish grabs the stone and she wishes that Rico's father would recover. She throws the stone in the river, but the stone bounces back and hits her in the head. In the end, Rico's father recovers, but Irish ends up having the Alzheimer's disease. |
