As kids in the province, Lucio and Steve have always rivaled over the attention of their friend, Susan. But Susan likes Steve more, and the two later become lovers. This pushes the impoverished Lucio to feel that in life, he had always been a loser, while the wealthy Steve had always been the lucky guy.
Lucio eventually finds his luck on his precious duck, and after hitting the grand jackpot on the lottery, Lucio becomes a millionaire. He agrees to give up all his wealth to have Susan, and Steve says that whoever dies first wins. Susan later tells Lucio that Steve has cancer and only had a few months to live. Lucio is devastated to learn that in the end, Steve still won over him.
Lucio wanders on the dark streets thinking of a way to forfeit his bet with Steve. Later, two drunkards mug Lucio, and when he refuses to give up his lucky duck, one drunkard stabs him. Back at the hospital, Steve asks Susan to tell Lucio that he is calling the bet off. Steve feels sorry on how his friend Lucio turned out because of his jealousy of him. A few minutes after, Steve takes his last breath, and Susan is devastated by his death.
