ABS-CBN is offering a new treat on its Primetime Bida menu. Margarita is the newest teleserye in which the housemate everybody loves to hate, Wendy Valdez, takes on the title role as a showgirl. But before viewers can have a sip of this enticing series, the cast and creators share to the local press the fleshy details in the making of this story so we can all peep on the naked truth underneath Margarita.
The creators of Margarita immediately clarified that this teleserye is not the TV adaptation of Burlesk Queen, just what the rumors are claiming. First of all, Burlesk Queen, a 70s classic by Celso Ad Castillo which became the diving board of Vilma Santos into mature roles, was more of a socio-political film. More so, the creators know that "Burlesk Queen" is too graphic of a title for free TV. Margarita, on the other hand, is mainly a dramatic story focusing on the personal life struggles of Wendy's character having a name like that of a popular ladies' drink. Furthermore, when asked what made ABS-CBN decide on tackling such a mature storyline on primetime TV, the creators said that Margarita will not be as sexy as many would expect basing on the show's teaser. The said teaser, showing Wendy in a bikini dancing beside a pole, is apparently the "sexiest" that show would go, said the creators. Viewers will get to see more of Margarita's challenges in life, like becoming the breadwinner in the family since her father left when she was just a little girl. The whole cast also shared their experiences in being a part of the "most daring teleserye" to date. Wendy said that she was very thankful to the producers for entrusting her with her own soap, barely a month after her much talked about 3rd place run in Pinoy Big Brother Season 2. The 25-year old former Bb. Pilipinas finalist said that she feels excited and nervous at the same time because she knows that she still has a lot to prove in terms of acting. But finding similarities in Margarita's struggles and in her own life, Wendy felt challenged portraying such indelible character, but also stressed that Margarita's life is thrice more complex that hers. Playing Wendy's love interest in the teleserye is her PBB sweetheart, Bruce Quebral. The tall, dark, and equally sexy Bruce said that he is happy to be working with his beloved, although both Bruce and Wendy dispelled all the rumors saying that they are already officially together. Bruce will play Rodrigo, Margarita's childhood friend who will eventually fall in love with her. But adding conflict to the love team is Diether Ocampo. A seasoned actor of numerous teleserye in the past, Diether took pride in his character, the rich and influential Bernard whom, as Diether described, will fall in love with Margarita and at the same time will hold the deepest secret along the story. |
