Take a look at "the Other", and be dazzled by a tale that weaves science and logic, as well as tradition and cultural differences in Cinema One's award-winning digital movie,"Huling Balyan ng Buhi: O Ang Sinalirap nga Asoy Nila" (The Woven Story of the Other). Directed by 22-year old Sherad Anthony Sanchez, the film gives us a look at tired rebels in waiting, playful soldiers at rest, and a troubled "balyan" (shaman) in an ambiguous dilemma, eventually bringing to light the questions of transcendence.
This gem bagged several awards in Europe, such as the One Future Prize Award at the Munich Film Festival in Germany, the Prix Premiere of the First Film Prize Award in the First Film and Sound Competition at the recent 18th FID (Festival International du Film) or the Marseille Documentary Film Festival in France. And just recently, it won nominations for Best Picture and Best Director at the 30th Gawad Urian, which is going to be held this August. Sherad's talent wowed the seven jurors at the Munich Film Festival, such that Sherad himself was reportedly invited to next year's film festival, making him the youngest, as well as the first Filipino juror in the prestigious film competition! |
