Projects keep on coming in for Rafael Rosell whose willingness to experiment in his roles is simply boundless. After playing the devil on the sineserye Maligno, he is now busy with two movies and two indie films where he will get to act as a workaholic guy, a first-class gigolo, a drug addict, and a bisexual, respectively.Portraying different roles all at the same time however is quite difficult to manage so he decided to concentrate first on his mainstream projects under Star Cinema and Viva Films.
“Yun yung mahirap eh. Like saMaligno I really lost myself there. So magfo-focus muna ako sa First Time—where I’ll mess things up between KC Concepcion and Richard Guttierez—and the movie with Ruffa Mae Quinto. We’ll start shooting the first indie film soon then I’ll save the last character for later because that’s the one which is farthest away from the real me. So kailangan pang paghandaan,” said Rafael during a chat with ABS-CBN.com.
Rafael felt honored to be given a chance to take on different roles contrary to the typical “good boy” which he used to do before. He’s particularly excited about the story of the indie film where he would be playing a lower-middle class bisexual living with his girlfriend and boyfriend in one house. When asked if he minds doing intimate scenes with another guy, Rafael unflinchingly replied that his passion for his craft tells him to do whatever it takes for the sake of a great script.
“I really love challenging myself, exploring what I can do and basically doing something that's not me. Yun yung escape ko sa acting eh. We (actors) are the few people who get the opportunity to live a different life. It doesn’t matter if you're a bad person or an addict because at the end of the day, you go home and you know that you’re safe (because it’s just a job after all),” he explained. Acting has indeed helped him release his bad side which he believes is innate to each individual.
In real life though, Rafael shared that he enjoys doing simple things like hanging out with friends and playing with his brand new Play Station 3 as much as the next guy. He even confessed that it’s been taking up much of his time lately which is why he forced himself to be “in rehab” and focus on much more important stuff. But he wouldn’t describe himself as typical for his friends have known him to be one “crazy” guy. “Siguro dahil sa ugali ko kapag nag-iinuman kami or yung mga hinihirit ko sa barkada or sa ibang tao na dapat hindi hinihirit. But I still get away with it. Kasi if I have a person I don’t like sa barkada namin, I have this tendency to tell the person na ‘Huwag kang ganyan’ in a rude way—putting them down not too low but just putting them down for their feet to be on the same ground.” For the most part though, he loves to catch up with them whenever he is not busy with work.
In the meantime, watch out for Rafael in the much awaited Bench fashion show entitled Black Out at the Araneta Coliseum on July 25. |
