Dolphy talks about his mission in life and on turning 80

By Bernie Franco

As he turns 80 this July, King of Comedy Dolphy is also marking his 64th anniversary in the entertainment industry this year. In spite of having carved his niche in showbiz for the last six decades, Dolphy intends to continue what he does best… to give entertainment and make people laugh. According to him, this is his mission in life.

He is currently shooting a comedy film with Vic Sotto, who Dolphy believes is heir to his throne.

Making people laugh is not just a mission, it is also Dolphy’s source of happiness.

For his 80th birthday, Dolphy said that he is not making a grand celebration. “Nag-celebrate na ko ng malaki last year. Sa aking 79th birthday. Ang celebration ko ngayon simple lang. Meron lang kasing show na nagpapalaki lang,” he revealed, referring to the birthday tribute ABS-CBN will stage for him in the coming weeks.

To make this year more memorable, Dolphy divulged that his biographical book is already finished and is now with the publisher for any necessary changes or additions. Titled Hindi Ko Ito Mararating Nang Nag-iisa, the book that tells the life of Dolphy is the brainchild of his son Eric Quizon. He confessed that he got many offers previously in making a biography but he believes that better results would be achieved if his son would manage it.

Tapos na ‘yung libro. Hindi pa ko nakakakita na book-bind. Pero tapos na lahat. Kasi nagdadagdag pa sila ng pictures,” he said.

Dolphy also answered issues about his ex-partner Alma Moreno not wanting to be mentioned in the book. I respect that,” he explained.
